The Fjallabak area of Iceland derives its name from its many rugged mountains and deeply incised valleys. With a bedrock formed from rhyolite lava dating back 8 to 10 million years, it remains largely devoid of vegetation. Large areas of rock formations however, covered in green moss, are often found near where water pools or flows.
Arriving at the loction where this image was made required the crossing of several unbridged rivers in specially equipped off-road vehicles.
