Driving for miles on a dirt track in the Veiðivötn area of the Fjallabak Nature Reserve, black desert all around us, we stopped at a seemingly nondescript spot. We could have stopped most anywhere, but the distant mountains offered intriguing possibilities. Wandering away from the group I came across a small field of white stones that formed a triangle on the black desert floor. I knew that this was the place to set down my gear. In the occasional lull between strong sheets of rain, keeping camera and lens from getting too wet, I was able to make this image.
